Broadway Tuesday

Recently I was in a production of Picnic by William Inge, playing Millie Owens.
It is about a small, rural town in the 1950s and the main theme is people wanting something that they can't have. Madge Owens is a beautiful young woman who is dating Alan Seymour. Her younger sister, Millie Owens, is an artistic tomboy who wants to be noticed. Hal Carter is a drifter who is taken in by Mrs. Potts, the girls' neighbor. He used to go to school with Alan.
This play is very fun and I enjoyed being in it.

Book Review Monday

Sorry that I didn't post anything last week...I was busy with dress rehearsals.
Today I will tell you what book I am almost finished reading: Mariah's Quest by Dianna Crawford and Sally Laity.

I am really enjoying this. Mariah and her two sisters are indentured servants, each bought by a different person.  Mariah is taken by a man named Colin, who is kind to her but his family is not pleased that he took her. His mother is convinced to allow her to teach her three girls how to be ladies and to play instruments. Later on, Mariah and Colin agree to marry--the trouble is, his mother refuses to let the marriage happen. Colin is drafted away to fight in the military, leaving Mariah alone with his mother and family. He returns months later, scarred by the war. He is blinded and the beautiful Mariah realizes that she needs more than beauty for someone to love her.

So, what have you reading lately?

Bible Verse Sunday

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Broadway Tuesday

Today, I am going to ask ya'll a question....if you could be in any musical/play on Broadway, which would you want to be in and who would you want to play?????? (Assuming for these performances you can sing adequately, don't have stage fright, and can change  to look like your character. (Unlike in most real-life instances!) )

I would say...I would want to be either Christine in Phantom or Eponine in Les Mis....but also many others!!!!

What about you?
Please comment, because I'd LOVE to hear from you!

Bible Verse Wednesday

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8-9

Broadway Tuesday

I watched a really cool show called Broadway or Bust a couple of weeks ago that aired on PBS. It was about teenagers from across the country competing to win the prestigious Jimmy Awards in New York City. Performers are judged by how well they perform in their local high school's production and a winner is selected from each region.  The winners then go to New York City and learn some medley numbers to perform in a real Broadway theatre. They also perform solos and are judged by a panel of professionals. One girl and one boy win the entire competition and many audition opportunities are opened to those who performed.
Broadway or Bust focused on a couple of teenagers who were performing at the Jimmy Awards and it showed their progress from the first day of rehearsals for the performance to when the winner is announce.
THIS SHOW IS AMAZING! It represents the theatre community far better than the (in my opinion) stupid TV show Glee.
I hope they film Broadway or Bust next year, also!

Book Review Monday

Today I will review The  Blue Enchantress by MaryLu Tyndall. Here is a book description: "Hope Westcott plunges into Charles Towne society trying to find love and acceptance—but lands herself in trouble. Captain Nathaniel Mason is determined to build his shipping business, and falling in love with Hope doesn't figure into his plans. What will he do when saving Hope means losing everything?"

Here's what I thought: I think I liked this book even better than The Red Siren, the first book in this great series. Hope was a very believable character that I was rooting for throughout the whole story. She struggles with very real problems. I liked Nathaniel very much and thought he was a wonderfully-written character. He was very kind to hope most of the time. MaryLu Tyndall describes her settings so well, I felt like I was with the characters in most of the scenes. I definitely loved this book and it kept me up well into the night because I just couldn't put it down. There are twists after twists in this novel. I would recommend it to friends and family.

This is the great Rob Evan singing "Before the Summer Ends" from Dracula by Frank Wildhorn. I have seen Rob Evan perform live a couple of times and he is a wonderful singer.

Book Review Monday

Today I am going to review a different kind of book...a travel guide. I read The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2011 by Bob Sehlinger and Len Testa.
No, I'm not going to Disney World anytime soon... I just missed Disney World so I decided to read a book about it. I really liked this book. For one, I think it would be helpful for families or couples or groups going to Disney World because it offers useful advice on how to make the cheapest and most efficient vacation to Disney World.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the attractions and hotels that are part of Disney World, and the explanations of    Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Hollywood Studios.
I loved reading all of the interesting facts in this!
Have you ever been to Disney World? What was your favorite part?
