Writing Friday: What It's Like to Be a Writer

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a writer?

I'll tell you what it is like for me.

During the normal week, I go to school, come home, do homework, read a little or watch some TV, and then write. Or at least try to write. I'm participating in the Go Teen Writers 100 for 100 challenge, which really helps me get at least some writing done each day. Basically it challenges you to write at least 100 words for 100 days.

If I'm not writing, I am editing other friend's works or reading.

Obviously, I get to write more on the weekends. :) Now, I am a member of the Coterie Theatre's Young Playwrights Roundtable, which meets a couple of Sundays of each month. So, for that, I get to meet fellow writers and work on writing a play.

Also, I am a member of ACFW, and I get lots of emails from them that are very helpful. Actually, right now the ACFW annual conference is going on and I get Stay-At-Home Conference emails where I am.

Tomorrow I have my first local ACFW chapter meeting which I am very excited for.(VERY!)

All in all, I love being a writer. :)

Do you write? What time of day do you write the best?

If you don't write, what would you like to know about how and when I (or other writers) write?

  1. Cool, Heather!
I like to write, but I often don't have the time to write every day, especially when there's school.

When I do write, it usually does not matter what time of day it is.

    1. Thanks, Cortney!

It usually doesn't matter what time I write, but I prefer to write at night, because I feel I do better then. :)

  2. Great post! I write best...probably mid-morning (the drive is write-so-much-and-you-get-lunch), but mostly I write at night. I didn't sign up for 100x100 this time, but it is SO good to keep accountable. ;)

Awesome. :) I do my best writing at night, and the 100 for 100 is so helpful to me.

  4. Interesting! If I write I usually do it at night, or first thing in the morning.

Have fun and good luck with your ACFW meeting!

I usually write at night too. And, sadly, I didn't get to go to the meeting. :(

  5. I don't write every day or even every week... it's more when I feel like it. I'm glad I am just writing for fun because I don't know if I could force myself to write and still end up with a good story. I'm sure I'll get better at it, too. Also, the time of day doesn't matter for me. But I can't really write unless it's quiet. Usually when no one else is home. I do like the 100 for 100 idea, though... I might try that, although I know there are some days I'm just not even home long enough to be able to write at all.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Sarah!

It's okay to not write all the time. You probably get better writing done when you just do it when you feel like it. :)

And, yeah, I think you could get better at it if you keep trying. The 100 for 100 is very, very helpful to me. The 100 for 100 has it where you get one "grace day" per week where you don't have to write the 100 words, and one "grace week."

I have found myself writing a LOT more than I would have otherwise.

      Thanks again for sharing! :)
